Sacred Concert

Under the auspices of the Feilding Wesleyan Church Choir an appropriate and enjoyable concert was held hi the Assembly Booms on Christinas night. It was promoted with the object of raising funds to purchase necessary music books for the choir, and, judging from the large audience, the result must have been satisfactory. An excellent programme was arranged, due to the energy displayed by the conductor, Mr B. F. Haybittle, and the hon. secretary, Mr H. Dixon. Mr Haybittle's string band gave the overtures •Glory to God' an d grand march, and ' 'Wise men of the East," which were thoroughly enjoyed. The choir sang the choruses " Welcome Christ is Born" and " Christmas Day Welcome" in a very satisfac tory manner. Mr Walter Haybittle gave " Calvary" in a taking style, and received a hearty encore and responded with "While the Child was yet alive." His rendering of "Nazareth" was greatly appreciated, as also his reciting of " In the Old Canteen." Misses Bellve and Curtis sang the duet "Ruth and Noami" very nicely. Mr H. J, Manson, a visitor at The Pines, Feilding, was very successful in reciting 11 Our Folks " and " Becalmed." " Tired" was well rendered by Mrs Howie. The duet "Pilot Brave" by Messrs R. F. Haybittle and H. Dixon was well received. Miss Bellve gave the song " Too Late " in a splendid manner, and " Serenata" with violin obligato. The well-known elocutionary powers of MrH. W. Haybittle were fully sustained in his rendering of '• Christmas Day in the Workhouse " and "Whistling in Heaven." " Consider the Lillies," by Mrs Prior, was well rendered. Mr T. kitchen received a hearty encode for his violin solo, to which he suitably responded. M Come Unto Me " as a quartette was well rendered by Misses Bellye and Curtis, and Messrs B. F. Haybittle, and Dixon. Misses Bellve, Phillips and Carthew, accompanied on the piano and organ. An apology was made for I the absence of Mr A. Eade who was to have pivert the " Storm Scene " also for Mr and Mrs M. L. Reading. Mr R. F. Haybittle (conductor) expressed the I thanks of thr choir to those ladies and ' gentlemen who had rendered their services so freely, also to the audienoe ; for their liberal support.
