A public meeting in connection with artificial rain producing, was held on Saturday afternoon, at which tlio Committee appointed to carrj out the experiments read their report on the subject. The atmospheric disturbances were so very marked on all three occasions in accumulating rain clouds that we believe there is far more in the practicability of the scheme than anyone is aware of, for though somewhat sceptical at the outset we were made easy converts as to the possible results, and although these few experiments were far too limited to build a theory on, the results possibly being coincidences, they certainly offer great inducement for more lengthened trials, and we offer, our conviction for what it may be worth. — That passing moisture laden clouds can be intercepted and caused to part with their moisture by an explosion ; and if bur conviction becomes an established fact; there ismotbine to prevent this district being pne /of. the most prolific in the colony. GiSBOHNE, December 19. Lilly Wilson, aged 13, was crossing Tearai Bridge this afternoon with her litfle sister, when a man on horseback, whose name the police have not yet been able to obtain, galloped his horse across the bridge, riding over the girl, who was brought into the Hospital, but died on the way to town. The younger child escaped unhurt. Augkland, December 21. Th. c "Premier and Minister of Lands left Auckland to-day, going by the Takapuna from the Manakau. Mr Balknee is to address a meeting at New Plymouth to-morrow night, while Mr Mackenzie goes on to Wellington. Napieb, December 21. After a lengthy sitting the coroner's jury empannelled to enquire into the death of Samuel Robertson, who died after being stabbed by Michael Sulliran on Wednesday evening, returned a verdict equivalent to wilful murder against Suliivan. Ellen Ring, aged 11, residing at Wairon," was learning her lessons in bed, when the clothes caught fire. She'died from the injuries in four hours.
