John Eobertson, who sustained severe injuries on the 19th ult. in his claim at Allen's Gully, by a fall of earth, has died from the effects in the hospital. He was 55 years of age, and said to be possessed of considerable property. BiiDFF, December 8. A steerage passenger in the To Anau from Hobart to Christchurch, named Price, was brought on shore yesterday afternoon suffering from the effects of drink. It was intended that he should go to the Inyercargill Hospital, but he died shortly after coming on shore. New Plymouth, December 8. 1 Mr Chew Chong, of the EUham Dairy Factory, waited upon the editor of the Taranaki Herald to-day and stated that, having had la grippe, he is now certain it is a skin disease, and can be very simply cured. The complaint is very common in China. It is a sort of parasite which runs through the body like a thread of cotton, and until it is destroyed the patient never recovers. Messrs. Baker and Rodger, who are working for Chew Chong at the Eltham. Butter Factory, were attacked the other day with la grippe, and Chew Uhong having dis* covered a parasite in them he destroyed it, and they are now as well as ever. Wellington, December 9;^ The Factory Act passed last session comes into operation on the Ist of Janu* ary. Only salaried officers under the Act will be in the large centres, who will have general supervision of its operations. In other places the administration of the Act, which will be enforced gradually, will be m charge of a civil servant, or a police Officer as at present.-
