Wellington, November 23. Piiuie Warden has been scratched for all engagements at the Wellington Racing Club's Spring meeting. Sydney, November 21. Mrs 'White's well known thoroughbred stallion Chester is dead. Chester was by Yattenden, from Lady Chester, and was bred by the late Hon. J. White. He won the V.E.C. Derby and Melbourne Cup as a three-year-old in 1877. Among his progeny were Abercorn, Drednought, Criuibrook, Citrlyon, Stromboli, Trieste, and others.

Wallace has received an ofler of £20,000 for Carbine to go to America, but Mr \Vfilhico wisely declined the tempting offer. Mr Wallace intends giving the champion a short respite at the stud, after which, if sound, he wiD be put into training aifiiin with a viow to the Champion llace — an event Carbine has alrondy won twice. General regret is expressed among Now Zetland sportsmon tliat Mr Stead has sqld Maxim to an American breeder. It was hoped that arrangements would be mado for tho great son of Musket to take tho place of Nordenfoldt in Auckland. With Maxim goes another of Musket's really great sons, ami it is much to be regretted that there was not sufficient irv duoement to koop him in the colony,
