I Te^ie^ale of the. Sea

Despatches received at Queenstown, from San Francisco, contain particu-lars-of the arrival at San Francisco on the 7th inst.. : of the British barque Royal Tar, from Australia, with the captain and chief officer dead, and nearly all the crew ill of fever, and in a frightful condition from scruvy. The vessel left Sydney last inarch, with Captain Franklin, two mates, eleven seamen, and boy, bound for Frederick Haven in New Guinea. Shortly after arriving there fever broke out on board, the captain and four men being taken ill. The medicines gave out, and the captain soon died. The first mate, Mr Rogers took command, and the ship sailed on June 5 for Hunibolt, California. Aftel' a time Rogers also died of fever, and the second mate, Mr McColl, took command and succeeded in getting to San Francisco without any more deaths. On arrival at San Fioncisco all the men were ill, some being toothless and others pitted and scarred with gangrene. Their sufferings appear to have been frightful.
