Gekkral Booth held a conversational meeting at Christchurch on Saturday morning, which was attended by a representative gathering of business men ; the Hons. Messrs Ballance aud MoKenzie were also present. The Premier in moving a vote of thanks at the close of meeting, said the proposition of General Booth was an experiment, and he thought the Government and country should afford an opportunity for the experiment to' be tried. I£ it failed no great harm could come, if successful the colony would be largely henefitted and the cause of humanity greatly advanced. With reference to this idea of the Premier, we do hope he will not commit the colony to any more " experiments. " We all know that General Booth does not consider it likely New Zealand will be included in his great scheme, aud we think he should be the best judge.
