In the Leader, by " Asniodeus," for the Derby — Strathmore, Penance, Oxide ; Cvp — Sir William, Paris, Correze. There is every prospect of a fine Derby day, and a large attendance. Swordbearer is being inquired about for the Derby, and 8 to 1 is being taken, and is still on offer, Strathmore is supported at 7 to 4. Medium business is being dono about others as follows : — 8 to 1 against Oxide, 4 to 1 against Stromboli, 8 to 1 against Swordbearer, 10 to 1 against Penance and Yarran, 20 to 1 against Sternchaser, 25 to 1 against The Eebel. Cup quotations are 100 to 11 each Paris, Pigeontoe, and Malyolio, 100 to 10 Correze, 100 to 8 Highborn, 100 to 7 Strathmore, 100 to 6 Whknbrel aud Megaphone, 100 to 5 Muriel, G'Naroo, and Greygown, 100 to 4 King Olaf, Sir William and . Forty Winks, 100 to 3 Cobharn, Litigant, Tiraillenr, and Stromboli. Mr Oxenham, the owner of Forty Winks, has a big stake about his horse at price quoted. The Melbourne Stakes promises some excitement, as the field will include such well performed horses as Marvel, Megaphone, Whimbrel and Malvolia. Sternchaser has been scratched for the Maiden Plate. Pigeontoe is almost a certain starter for the Hothatu Handicap, the third race to-morrow. The Melbourne Derby will be run today, and the telegram announcing the result will be posted up outside our publishing office this evening after six o'clock.
