Education Board

The monthly meeting of 'the. Edu cation Board commenced on- Monday last. The^ following gentleman weie present — Messrs Carson (in the chair), Sanson, Bridge, 'Hurley j Baker, Pry, Notman, Beckett, -and the Eev Mr Ross. Inspector Bindon was also present. ' . Appointments. — The Board then went intovcommittee to, consider appointments, _&c, and on resuming it was reported as follows : — lt was re solved to acknowledge receipt o£ a - letter from the -Mosstown. Committee, and state that as no reason was given ' for the retention- of the teacher the change' originally proposed x will be — Annie Roberts, Sandon, was appointed a cadet.— luresponse to are'§ues£frdm the Kairanga Committee xc the further applications for approval, it was decided to.'send in the names of Messrs Payne, Innes, and Watkins— • TEe f resignation 'of Miss Helen Phyn, Campbelltowhj was accepted, and it was resolved to J send Mrs Melliah as assistant teacher, subject to the committee's consent.— Letters were read from Mrlir j Woodhain, Foxton, and Mr Stansell, as to the latter's exceeding his leave, and~it- wa3 decided to refer the^matter-to -the Executive to remove ,Mr Stansell to another school, and at the same, f time the Board ex "pressed itsdisapproyal'of his exceeding his"< leave.^lt- was -resolved that in consequence i of " the 1 unsatisfactory results of 'the- recent 'and previous examinations at Terrace End,' the committee of Palmerston North be conBiiltecl with a view 'to teiminating the engagement of the head "teacher at Terrace .End — It wa9 •- decided, to advertiso'for an assistant master for "7 Palmerston Noith at a salary of £180 JT;and a bonus.'— lt was decided that the 5/' whole of thejnformal c f )riespondenco 1 as to the removal of the, Pohangina teacher should be' 'referred- back to be sent through the .Committee. — Tbe Secretary was requested' to write tho Bunnytborpe 'Committee that the • school must not v be closed with the objeot of protecting the average attendance.— Letitia - MeGongale was appointed cadet, and 13. Olapham was appointed pupil teacher.— Alfred Welsh was' appointed on probation, and it was decided he should be iustructed'to ,CTme l to Wanganui. — Thomas of Bunny thorpe, was piomoted to a pupil teachership. Eeilding.— Mr Fry reported that he had authorised the re-covering of the roof of the teacher's residence at a cost of £14. * -, .'Makino Uoad. — Iti was resolved to give the teacher of this school three months' notice of the termination of His engagement at Makino Hoad, and to inform him that he might apply for a smaller school. Kimbblton Koad.— The Committee having"written suggesting an increase in the size of the proposed building, it was resolved to increase its capacity ' from 40 to 50 scholars. "Day of- Board Meeting. — It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Sanson, that the next meeting of the Board should be held on Monday, November 23rd, instead of on the usual day. Midland Eoad. — Mr Fry was autho- •- rised to lease a cottage for a residence "fora term of three years. Mt was 'resolved that this school should be renamed Aratiki, from the Ist of, January. Apiti and Pemberton. — It was resolved that the architect should be asked to again invite tenders for tho erection of schools at Apiti and Pemberton. Mangaone. — It was resolved that the architect be instructed to call for tenders for an infants' room to accommodate 40 scholars. Beaconßfield. — The Board decided to 'appoint Jane Birmingham provided all certificates were forthcoming. Hiwinui. — An application having been made for half the costs of fencing,' it' was resolyed that the whole cost should be paid by the bjard. 1 ' Notice of Motion. — Mr Bridge gave I notice of -the following motion: — That Regulation 70 be amended by the addition of the words ' except that the December meeting will be held on the Monday before December 24th.' - This terminated the business of the Board: m _ m _ __
