An auction sale was held to -day of land now belonging to the New Zealand Estates Company, formerly owned by the Native Land Settlement Company. There was a very large attendance, in - eluding seycral visitors to the district, and the saje was a successful one. Many thousand apres were submitted, changing. hands at satisfactory figures- The total sum of £58,448 was relised for the land sold. The sale is regarded as a very satisfactory one. Christchcrcqt, October 26. To-nitfht the Premier addressed a largo public meeting in the Tuam street Hall. About 2000 were present. At the close of his speech a vote ■ of thanks ; and confi» dence in the policy of the present Government was carried by acclamation without opposition.
