4 LP^I! UNITED PHESS ASSOCIATION. J Melbourne, October 13. A remarkable recovery from snakebite has been effected by means of galvanism. The influenza epidemic shows no signs of abatement. The accommodation at the hospitals is taxed to the utmost, and many deaths are reported. October 14. The fatal character of the influenza epidemic is creating widespread alarm. The Rev Mr. RiggJ- President of the Wesleyan Conference, and Mr W. Musgrovc, Secretary for Trade and Customs, have succumbed to the epidemic. Several other prominent citizens died today, and many more are in a critical condition. Hobabt, October 13. The R.M.S. Doric arrived from London, via Cape, at 1 1 o'clock this morning and sails again for Wellington at 5 o'clock to-morrow morning. She brought 45 passengers for Australian ports, and has 115 for New Zealand. Sydney, October 13. Replying to a question in the House of Assembly to-day as to whether the Government had made any agreement to aid General Booth in his colonisation scheme, or whether the Government would take steps to prevent the introduction of pauper labour, the Premier said, without directly answering, he might say that hehad had a conversation with the leader of I the Salvation Army on his arrival m Sydney, bat nothing had been Paid about aiding the scheme nor with regard to pau> pers. He said no doubt, however, that when the time arrived to deal with the matter Goyernment would be equal to the occasion. October 14. General Booth sailed for Auckland in the steamer Pukaki this evening. He was accorded a great send-off.
