Correspondence

TOHANGINA SCHOOL. . TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — Our committee held a meeting on Tuesday night to discuss matters which took place the night before. I understand that three of them, and one who should not be interested in school affairs, stated that despite the crushing condemnation they received at the meeting (reported in the Feilding Star) when the householders and parents to a man condemned their action toward Mr Eeeve, and their whole management of school matters, resolved not to resign. Some individuals would have done so at once, bub tben we have persons here whose skins are thicker than that of a hippopotamus, aud whose hearts are hard as flints. At the meeting on Monday night they tried to induce the people to agree to take a man as their choice, whom they condemned, and to take the Board's choice, but on Tuesday night they agreed to accept him, because he had excellent testimonials from the Board, and even though he had, it is given out that although the committee passed the resolution on Tuesday it must be understood that by " the committee " is meant only three members and one who is not a member. We are in a portion of a community where educational business is in the hands of men who, of all persons, are the worst fitted to manage it. If the Board accedes to their wishes, it will make the gravest possible mistake. The parents and householders have no quarrel with their teacher. Their quarrel is with the members of the committee who wish to force a change which no one wants to make but themselves. Every parent with the exception of three or four of the committee are very well satisfied with the present teacher, Mr Eeeye, and those who have children of their own will only be to glad to keep Jhim in our midst, i — I am, etc. Traveller.
