Feilding Jokcey Club
A special meeing of the Club was held at Mrs Hastie's Hotel on Saturday evening; Ttierti; we're; Mr Macartbur, vice-Pre?&detit, and seventeen members : present, Mr Leth bridge, president of the club, occupied the chairy j> ; :, • * • l'Uo meeting was called at. the request of ten membeis of the club, for the /purpose. of. considering the de-sireableness.-pr, pthprwi96 of altering .the day upon which it is proposed to hold the Christmas, meeting. After some discussion Mr Burnett moved, "That? the day be altered to 29th December." Seconded by Mr Gosling pro forma. Mr Burnett, in moving the resolution, stated he thought it was foolish to attempt to compete with Palmerston, who were giving more money, and the people who . were at Palmerston for, the first day would stay there for the' second day. Mr Macarthur opposed the resolution/arid advised the members of the Club to stand their ground. He referred to the action of the Palmerston Club 'on a previous occasion taking the Feiiding.aay, but. they did not succeed.- He' considered the action of the Palmerston Club a very unsportsmanlike r one, but it would be showing the white feather to give in to them. •Mr^Downes moved as' an amendment- seconded; by ; ; Mr Sherwill, " That the Club hold their meeting as usual on the r day after Boxing day." The' amendment was carried, and the meeting adjourned.
