Wanganui Education Board
The ordinary monthly meeting of. the above Board was held on Monday and continued on Tuesday last. All the members were present. The cash statement was read and received, and the Executive Committee's report was read and received. In v "Committee. — The Board then "went into Committee to consider apjt pointments and do other business. — ' 'On resuming they reported the following business done : — *Taonui. — A letter from Taonui was read selecting Mr Astmry as teacher. He was appointed accordingly, and it "was resolved, that Mrs Astbury be allowed to take charge for another month. "" Mosstown and Turakina. — Sundry •correspondence and petitions from the -Mosstown and Turakina Committees .were- read, and it was resolved that as fjfelon as practical the exchange of be effected. Awahuri. — J. R. Nairn, cadet at Awahuri, applying for a pupil teacher*hip, was next considered, and it was Tesolvcd he should be appointed as pupil teacher at Foxton, if the Inspector: approved. A report for -an alteration in the plans for . the proposed enlargement of the for the addition of an -entirely new room, was complied with -as alsa was the application for ventilators. Peilding. — A letter was read from Mr Hill, of Feilding, respecting the of J. Walton, a pupil teacher, =and the temporary appointment of -Manor Watts in his place. - It was resolved that the latter be appointed at the salary of a fourth-class pupil steadier during Walton's illness. The Board referred Mr Sherwill's letter, as to leasing of section 52, to Mr Fry. — The Feilding Committee •wrote as to the covering of the "teacher's residence with iron, and also applying for a. large number of hat «nd coat hooks. — The matter was referred to Mr Fry — It was resolved to lender the f hanks of the Board to the Tending Firg Brigade for their services in extinguishing the fire on ithe roof of the residence, and at the *ame time to inform the Brigade that the Board had no power to make any .grant of money. Fohangina. — A letter was read -from this Committee respecting the teacher, and it was decided to effect «n exchange between the Pohangina »nd Greatford teachers. Amendments of* Terms of Bonds. — Mr Bridge's motion, notice of which was given at the last meeting, " That "the bond provided for. in Section 2 of the regulations be so amended as to provide that bondsmen are found for iiouse allowance and Committee's <capitation in addition to the teacher's salary," was carried. Oampbelltown. — An application for in the building of a shelter shed having been received, it was decided to grant pound for pound up to £7. Ashurst. — The School Committee iiave made an application for increased accommodation, and three months' leave of absence for Miss Warne, pupil teacher, it was decided 4hat the leave should be granted with- j -out. pay, but that the matter of in «creaeed accommodation should be held •over for the present. Hiwinui. — The Committee wrote requesting permission to exteud the residence at their own expense, which permission was granted, subject to i£he supervision of the architect. Bunnythorpe. — The request from this Committee for increased accommodation was referred to the inspector. New Committee. — The Executive Committee, with such of the members of the Board as could attend, -were appointed a Committee to meet =at 3.30 o'clock on Board Monday to go through the Inspector's reports. ■; Inspector's Eeports.— Mr Notman moved, " That a register be prepared showing the result of examinations and inspection reports at each school, together with a summary of any action taken by the Board on such reports." — The motion was seconded by Mr 3?ry and carried. The Board then adjourned. — Chronicle.
