H> had «ffec(«d'ah entrance at the back door by torin'g a hole iust above the lock with an auger. >He 'had then.inserfced his arm *nd turned the, keyv,; and f hus gained an entrance. H/. carried a lar^e sack wi'li iiin which lie filled with j wellery taken from the window. He did n-t choose, Irat cleared the window as the jewellery came to hand. Mr Matheson, clerk to the Colonial IBank,; heard someone moving About the shop and informed the, nightwatchman,"who was passing at the time, The riigh'twatchmnn... immediately rashed off for a polije^oian, but could net find. «ne^Mr Miatiies'on then decided? to try and arrest the burglar with, the assistance of the nightwatchman and a six chaaiijfered^W'vqlver,"'"but the burglar - heard them coQjiagand hastily decamped, leav^ ing the'sackfttllof iewellery behind him. .He? s ßr*>w«rerf" managed to take away bis tools and abont £20 worth of jewellery. 2Jo trace 'of the burglar has since been <Hseovered.--Manawatu Times.
