Chips from the Harbor Block
A township not a hundred miles from IFeilding was the scene of the following - exciting ©vent it schoolboy life. The lads -attending the school had decided to form' « cricket club, and with the view of raising funds, proposed holding a concert. A . meeting was called to arrange preliminaries, which was well attended. With -considerable ostentation a chairman was installed, and promptly set to work to preserve order, when one of the unruly struck him a blow in the mouth, upset- • ting him chair and all. Four of the Jargest boys then cleared the room of the malcontents and elected themselves a committee to manage the affair. Me time the evicted party vigorously bim~barded the building (a shed) with stones. The fusil ade ultimately getting so hot that the privileged ones inside, whose deliberations were thus disturbed, decided to make a sortie to disperse their assailants. They were armed with an air gu i and an unlimited quantity of soft potatoes. They sallied forth, creating great •consternation among the peaceful inhabitants, pursued their enemies to their own homes, after seriously damaging the eye of one, and putting a shot in another's leg. '
