Young Men's Association

Last evening a meeting of those interested was held m a room in Glasgow House for the purpose of* forming a society which had been temporarily designated " The Feilding Young Men's Association." The meeting was well at tended, including the Revs H. U. Mur ray and W. Harris and several leading townsmen ; it was not strictly composed of. " young" men as the name might sug gesfc, although " young " men were in the majority. All those present signed the roll of membership, and paid their subscriptions of one shilling a month for members over twenty years of age and sixpence for those under. It was dec-id od . that the object should be the Social, Moral and 'lntellectual improvement of its members, and that it should be eon- * ducted on a religious basis. A strong committee was ; appointed to draw up rules ■and make necessary arrangement^ to report at a meeting to beheld next Wednesday evening.. In the meantime it was agreed that the room should be open «very evening from 7 to 10, when those ■who wished could attend or amuse themselves by playing chess and drafts, Tead periodicals which might be given "by members or well-wishers. During the eyening Mr J. C. Thompson announced that he would keßp to a formor promise lie had made, and give a building site whenever the , Association was able. to accept the offer. It is proposed to make the Association as attractiye as possible,- by haying a gymnasium and reading room, and to hold meetings for various questions.
