Bits from Birmingham

w ■ , [from ottr own correspondent.] The Rey Mr Harris, of your town,*proposes giving a lecture in the Birmingham Town Hall on Monday next. We reckon this will be a real treat because Mr Harris is well-known as a lecturer who can make his subject interesting as well as amusing. The subject he has chosen is *' Common Mistakes." The proceeds will go to the building fund of the new church. Mr T. A. Bryce has kindly consented to to preside. There is some talk of a saddler starting business here, and if he does he is sure to do well, as the number of settlers is daily on the increase, and, besides, lots of work has to be sent to Feildmg to get done. Mr and Mrs Foley are going to give two of' their popular parlor entertainments on Friday and Saturday next. They are very popular here and their visits are welcome. Mr Tolley is about to erect a comfortable dwelling house soon, and will then start as a builder. The time has come when some active steps should be taken to improve the cemetery which is in a bad state. If each settler contributed a small sum the necessary work could easily be done.
