Tuesday, September 14.Clause B— Proceedings at meetings. — On the motion of Mr Palmer, an addition was made to the clause to the effeefr that ; any candidate may be allowed to withi draw from nomination before the ballot-' is taken, either verbally or in writing, A new clause was substituted- for Clause 9, to- the effect that any householder present at an annual meeting may nominate for election on the committee. any resident householder, and a resident householder nominated at a meeting shall) be a candidate for election. The meetingshall then, by a resolution, fix a number* of the committee, which must not boless than five or more than nine. The BUI was ordered to be reported^ with the amendments. The House went into Committee on the Municipal Corporation Act Amendment Bill. Clause 6— One per cent of general rate may be applied to certain purposes — was amended to provide that not more than - jBIOO can be used in this way in any one year. The Bill was reported with amend- ' ments, and put through its final stages. The Hon Mr Ballance has announced the Agent-Generalship, which has been offered to and accepted by Mr Perceval, who will proceed to England in the course of a few weeks, and enter upon his new dnties. In answer to questions it was stated — That during the recess the Government would appoint an expert to assist fruit growers of New Zealand. The Auckland boor operatives strike has virtually ended, and cost £6000. It is stated Balmnceda has surrendered to the British flagship, and pleaded on his knees for mercy and to be taken aboard. Wednesda r, Septbmbeb 26. The Premier informed the Hon. Mr Rolleston that he hoped to be able to appoint a Chairman of Committees some day this week. The Minister for Lands moved that the amendments made in the Land Bill by < the Legislative Council be .disagreed with. . He hoped the Hou-e would assist him in approaching the Council in a friendly but determined manner, in order that they might seen re such an amendment of the existing land laws, which he felt sure was desired by the country generally. After a debate the Minister's motion was agreed to. The House rose at 1.30 a.m.
