Mr Rogers at Makino

A lecture on the advantages of Government Insurance and State Security wa» delievered by Mr C. Eogers, on Monday evening in the Makino School room to a very fair audience. A good many ladies, were present, and the speaker was listened to attentively, considering that the* lector which at any time seems som& what dry to the average public, but Mr Eogers shewed how to keep bis audiencein good humour which he inoculates them with facts and figures. He stated that he had been informed that an impression. existed in the district, that policies ofv private offices doing business in this col--ony are guaranteed by this Government .1 on certain terms, and he read extracts -v* from Hansard which showed that suck - policies were not guaranteed to the smallest extent. The Question of loans on policies was also gone into. Mr Eogers stating that no Insurance office lent more that 90 per cent of the surrender value on a policy. He had however heard < f one office lending money on personal security, but this office required the borrower to insure for twice the amount of • the loan and to find three men of good financial standing to make themselves jointly and severally liable for the amoui t borrowed, interest and payment 'of " premiums. The speaker spoke at lenghot) the general advantages of insurance and interspersed his remarks with some " capital recitations and music which were loudly applauded. Mr Fry occupied the , chair and proposed a vote of thanks td the lecturer at the conolusion, and a pleasant two hours was brought to a close by a vote of thanks to the Chair- , man.
