Mons. Leon-Driver's Concert
The attendance last night at the Grand Piano Eecital "by Mons Leon-Driver, in the Assembly Booms was not as good as the occasion deaemred, although the front seats were tolerably well filled. Mons Leon-Driver is certainly a marvellously clever performer, and every encomium passed upon him is richly deserved. His execution, time, and bnllancy of touch may be fairly described as near perfection as it is possible to attain. The solo on the piano " KiUarney " was well received, and his " Auld Bobin Gray " played with the left hand only, earned an encore to which ho responded by playing^." Nocturne in ]?. No, 5 " composed by Mons. Leon-Driver, one of the sweetest and most beautif uL pieces of music it has ever been our good, fortune to hear. His rendering of the IC Marche Andalusia " was very brilliant. The Storm at Sea " was a master piece- of execution, but the most effective and pleasing part was the prayer. We nevf ir heard Mr Isherwood to greater advanta ge, and that gentleman must have he<3n very much gratified with his reception each time be appeared on the dta-e. The violin solo " The Old Fo'ks at Horo t e " with, variations, was so well appreciated that an encore was imperatively ' demanded, to which he responded with "Here we are Again." In the second part he gave " Oberlander " which also was encored most enthusiastically. The ladies who assisted very much in making the entertainment so pleasurable a une were, Mrs Prior who sang " London Bridge " with taste and feeling, and "Darby and Joan," for the latter Mrs Prior was recalled ; and Mrd Foden who was yery happy in " The Broken Pitcher" and the "Kerry Dance" for both of which she was applauded. Miss Giesen played the ao compamments to the songs of the ladies very charmingly and showed she was a thoroughly accomplished performer. We are glad to announce that Mons Leon i Driver intends to pay a return visit I in about a week when we have every con- | fidence he will be greeted with a bumper house. '
