Every true lover of New Zealand, and admirer of the beautiful scenery to be found in various parts of the colony, but which have, in so many instances, been ruthlessly destroyed, will read with pleasure the following extract from the Napier Telegraph : — " Some time ago the Hawke's Bay Land Board decided to open up for selection the lands immediately bordering Lake Waikaremoanq,, but to-day they decided on the BUggestion of the Surveyor-General, to reserye it, and have it proclaimed a reserve at once. The reason is that the members now think it would be a mistake to part with any of the lands fronting the lake, the scenery there surpassing in beauty that of every other of New Zealand of a similar character. To detract in any measure from this scenery would be to make a mistake, the effect of which would be felt for generations to come. They thought the time was not far distant when this lake would be visited by hundreds of tourists annually, and there fore its natural beauties as they exist would be of far more value to the colony than the small price that would be obtained for the land near it if sold.
