Mr Parnell reasserts his charges against Messrs Dillon and Morley, and gives details in which much bitterness is displayed. The Rev 0. H. Spurgeon is reported to be much stronger. The prospectus of the West Indian and British Guiana Ice Company, with a capital of £150,000, is being issued. Among the objects of the Company are the shipping, storage, and sale of Austra- . han and .N ew Zealand frozen meat, dairy produce, and fruit. A consignment of 10,0u0 gallons of Australian wine sold at a substantial \ advance on previous prices. Leading connoisseurs are enraptured with the quality, and merchants express astonishment that the Australian colonies do hot ship large quantities Home. Turkish brigands .- haver murdered a workman and kidnapped a railway in spector, an Italian, near Salonica. Hong Kong, August 19. The Bey. Mr Grey, an English missionary, has been nearly murdered at Kirin. Hong Kong, Augnsl "£q. The Chinese Government has instructed, its ambassador at Berlin to protest against Germany joining; the other Powers withS out grounds, and to state that no Germans were injured during the recent riots. Pekin, August 19. The Emperor of China refrains from yielding to European pressure, because he is doubtful of the loyalty of the provinces, and any moyement against the rebellious subjects may imperil the dynasty. The New York Herald's Shanghai correspondent- says that the situation at Pekin is grave. The recent edict is a dead letter.* The Province of Hunan is the centre of disaffection, whence the present trouble is being stirred up. The high officials are in favour of a pure-bred Chinaman being elected Emperor, and the present Tartar dynasty expelled. There are 20 foreign, warships in the Yang-tse-Kiang, and only a demonstation in force will procure redress for the recent atrocities. Ottawa, Adgust 19. McGreevy declined to undergo examination on the ground that he would implicate political friends and Ministers and cause the overthrow of the Government. Pabis, August, 20., Dr Tanner insulted a Captain Picard at Boulogne Casino, and was challenged in consequence. A duel is being arranged.
