Accidents and Fatalities
Inspector Thompson received a telegram yesterday from Constable Gilhspie., of Foxton, stating, that Mr James Ingly, of Shannon, had found, .on the railway line the mangled remains of . a man who had evidently been run over by a train. The place where the' body was found is situated about a* mile 5 on the Palmerston side \>t Shannon. Inspector Thomson despatched Coustable O'Rorke to Shannon to -help Constable Gillespiein obtaining particulars of the terrible affair. .The Victim of the unfortuuate occurrence is a labouring-man named Macarthy, who resides at Makaroa, a flag station, the other Bide of Shannon He came down by the train from. Palmerston on Monday night, and got out at Shannon, presumably with the intention of /walking back to his home. Instead, of returning home, however, it is stated that he. spent some time iu«an hotel, and when he did start he came to- ' -wards Wellington instead >of going back tip the line.' This was the last time the unfortunate man was 'seen alive. His *coat and boots were found some distance «awaj from the remains. — N. Z. Times. " " Thames, Augast 19. A terrible accident happened jester day at the Cassell Company's' reduction *rork3 at Karangahake. The foreman of t\ie\ works, James Tegart, "was leaning - *>ver a cylinder containing a ve<y strong solution of- cyanide of -potassium, when he overbalnaced and ' fell " in.
