The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, 1891.
Although we are opposed in politics to the present Ministry, yet we have pleasure in quoting the following extract from the Eginont Settler. Our contemporary says :— " The whole Ministry are very strong, and there is an utter absence of the hobnailed and roughshod administration that characterised the late Ministry in their manner of conducting the business of the House, all the mem-
bers being treated with exemplary courtesy." We can add our testimony that allf-letters or communications addressed to those now in authority are treated with a courtesy, which is in marked contrast with the treatineritrthey received at the hands of their predecessors.
Several complaints have reached us to the effect that the telegraph posts between Feilding and Awahuri have been put in too close to the centre of the road. At the best of times this road is too narrow for the traffic upon it, limited as that traffic is except on the occasion of the the sales of stock at Awahuri, Sandon, or Bulls, to allow of any of the available space being taken for other than a-legiti-mate purpose such as a drain or culvert. Should a horse bolt, and we know that two or three fatal accidentß from that cause have already happened on the road in question, these posts will be an additional source of danger, and may be tho cause of still more accidents by collision. Had they been placed say eight or ten feet farther from the centre of the metal, no possible extra work would have been given to the department further than cutting down a few saplings or a little undergrowth. It will be seen in the report of the proceedings of the Manawatu County Council that Mr John Saxon called attention to the matter complained of, and a resolution was passed instructing the overseer to interview the official who erected the posts and request him to shift them further away from the formation. We haye very little doubt but Mr Saxon's idea will be carried out, but a little thought on the part of those who were responsible in the first instance would have obviated the necessity for the extra work of removal.
