The Christians' Rights
[Communicated.] Last Sunday morning a large congregation assembled in the Wesleyan Church to hear Mr Gk Grant, who was announced to preach on the above subject. A few words in reference to the musical part of the. service will be in place here. The singing is under the able couductorship of Mr R. P. Haybibtle and is accompanied with instrumental music, thus rendering the service more attractive and impressive than is usually the case m many churches. The text was taken from 1 Cor. 11l 21---23 verses. Mr Grant briefly reviewed the cause of dispute in the Church of Corinth at that time, and said it was a sad thing to see Christians disputing as to what belongs to this or that portion of them, to the exclusion of their sections. He likened God"s gifts " Christianity and salvation " to the beautiful sunlight, which, the more it blesses one, the more it does so to all, and God's gifts are not lessened, but increased by being shared. Paul speaks of other things being the Christian's, the world is his, life and death, things present arid things to come. Paul claims that God created the world for himself, and so the world is ours, if we are God's. Life is the Christian's, not necessarily length of life, for the good often die first. If the Christian doos not live long, he lives more, iv the best and noblest sense. He lives in deeds, not words ; in thoughts, not breaths ; in feelings, not in figures ; he lives most who thinks most, feels the noblest, acts the best, the true Christian has a soul capable of the highest and best things. Death is the Christian's, he is no kinder to the . good than he is to the wicked. Death is God's messenger and he is bound to do his work. Christians only pass through " the valley of the shadow of death " and need not fear any eyil. Rich is the Christian's heritage compared with which the world is poor.
