August 7At a mooting of shareholders in Allsrip and Company, displeasure was expressed at the results of the committee of enquiry into the management of the company, but after a great deal of disorder the directors' report was adopted. A lady has been shot m a- first-class railway carriage at Bedford. She declared'she had been assailed by a young man when near Leicester, and that tie had made his escape through the window of the carriage, Lady De LaZouche was to-day charged with being drunk while riding m Hyde Park. The police testified that she smelt of drink, and was taken to the hospital, where she was galvanised. The case was dismissed. Probate has been obtained by the executors of the late Archbishop Magee, whose property is sworn at under £18.500. Owing to the express train from Pittsburg to Chicago being wrongly shunted on to the goods line at Sedem, Ohio, a collision took place, in which two persons were killed and a number seriously injured. President Balmacda is vainly offering to buy (he United States warship Baltimore for 4,000,000d01. lt is expected the cruiser Charleston will be ordered to Honolulu, where a revolution is feared. The acoident at Port Byron was caused by the coupling of a luggage train breaking. The guard attempted to warn the passenger train which was coming along at the rate of 45 miles an hour, but the weather was foggy and the signals were uot seen. A smoking car full of Italian workmen was smashed, and it is feared several of the occupants will succumb to the injuries they received. Thursday Island, August 8. The machinery of the Australian cruisers worked faultlessly throughout the voyage. The officers are convinced they are good sea boats, but they have the disadvantage of being very wet in rough seas. Romr, August 8. The famous gambling casino of Monte Carlo in Monaco is to be closed next year.
