At a meeting of those who have returned from the Government relief works at Mahuri, near Pahiatua, complaints were made that the Government Engineer has measured the work incorrectly, and suggesting that a private surveyor be spnt to measure the work. The deputation, subsequently waited upon the Minister for Land.-;, and represented the matter to him. The Minister said that so far as he had been able to ascertain the men had been fully paid for all work they had done. He promised, however, that he would go into the matter furiher. A man named Henry Priestman, a new arrival from Home, left Mastorton on Monday, stating tnat he intended having half-an-hour's shooting He was found this afternoon about a mile from town shot through the head.
