Manchester Road Board
The ordinary monthly meeting was held in the Board's office on Saturday, the isfc inst. Present— Messrs Lethferidge - (chairman), Purkiss, Wheeler, JPearse, and Beeves. The, minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
CORRESPONDENCE.
From F. A. .Awdry, re contract on road, requesting extension of time in order io burn.
From Treasury Office, requesting payanent of interest on amount due by the JBoara;'^636 12s sd, interest for half-year. From W. J. Cokei-j notifying sale of his land t« Arthur Goldfinch. '
From' F. Allerby, claiming £B damages for injury to horse sustained at a fridge on the Valley road. From W. A. Sandilands, re McCrae's aroad.
From BaDgitikei County Council, requesting cheque from Board, re Onepuhi foridge. From Controller and Auditor-General, •circular in reference to rates and moneys not collected.
From Audit Office, returning balancesheet of the Manchester Road Board for .year ending 31st March, 1891.
GENERAL,
Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr. Wheeler, That Mr Berry be asked to allow the plans of McCrae's road to lay in his; store for inspection, as required by the Public Works Act.
The claim of F. Allerby for damages to hishorse wasleft to Mr Pearse to deal with.
A conversation took place on the stumping and clearing of Kiinbolton road. Mr Purkiss remarked that he regretted they had taken this matter in hand, as >the money would have been better spent in making new roads where required. Proposed by Mr Beeves, seconded by Mr Pearse, That .the request of Messrs Awdry and "Anderson for an extension of time be granted for three months from <late, on the Kimbolton road contracts. — Carried. ; , Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by jfax Beeyes, That the tender of Mr Newinan for Lukaschowski's line be accepted, at £35~— Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Pearse, That Mr Farrel's tender of .£ls for Baukawa contract, 9J chains, be accepted. — Carried. v Mr Beeves introduced the question, and also presented a numerously signed petition in support, of forming and metalling streets in Ashurst township, and stated, it was unsafe to walk along them at night time. It was essentially necessary to take some steps towards carrying out the work requested by the settlers. ,A drawing of the streets in question was shown by- Mr Beeves. The following resolution was Proposed by Mr Reeves seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That tenders be ■called for forming and curbing the footpaths in the Pohangina road irom Post Office on the one side and Mr Beard's on tbe other, to Mulgrave street. Tenders to be sent in by the next monthly meeting of the Board. — Carried. Mr Purkiss said that his district was
entitled to have a share of the money being spent in road- making, and ii other members preferred to have the road .and an overdraft, he should propose that certain work in his district be gone on with, the condition of some parts of it ho was really ashamed of. Proposed by Mr Beeves, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That the Treasurer and Chairman be asked to wait on the Man *ger of the Bank to ascertain if the inter- ' est on the Board's overdraft cannot be reduced to the rate of 7 per cent per annum ; and that in the event of the baiik refusing* ***** Treasurer and. Chairman be authorised to make arrangements with another Bank. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Reeves, That the Engineer call for tenders for forming Stanway Eoad from the boundary of the township to -junction of Sandon-Halcombe Road. Also, 30 chains of continuation of Knapper Street to Stanway Road.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Reeves, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That tenders be invited for formation of Standford street from Mulgrave street; from and the j unction of Bam - field street and Standford street to Pohangina Road.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Seeyes, seconded by Mr Pearce, Thatthe Engineer be authorized to call for tenders for the supply of about, ' 300 cubic yards of metal, to be delivered on the Palmerston -Gorge road, fcheFoild ing-Ashurst road and the Pohangma road.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded b; Mr Lethbndge, That the Engineer haye the -metal already stripped in the Viakar.. Pit carted out where most wanted at such time ac he thinks fit.— Carried. The monthly accounts^ were passed tor Wj-qient and the meeting then adjourned.
