» Wednesday July 29. In the House yesterday the Wellington Electric Lighting Bill was thrown out by 32 to 28. At the evening sitting the Track, Shop Hours, and Employers' Liabilities Sills' were considered in Committee. The last named was passed with slight amendments. A motion by Mr Duthie that the Shop Hours Bill be committed that day six months was lost by 58 to 4. It was resolved to exclude confectioners, fruit and vegetable, tobacconist and hairdressers shops from the operation of the Bill ; that the hour of closing on one day of the week be 10 p.m., and that shops be allowed to remain open on Christmas and New Year's Eve to 11 o'clock. An amendment that the hour of closing on one day of the week be 2 instead of 1 p.m. was negatived. The maximum penalty for not closing at specified hours was altered from L 25 to LlO. The whole of the evening was taken up in discussing the Auctioneer's Bill. The Partnership Bill was passed through committee without amendment. The various Bills were then reported] and the ■ oinpanies, Partnership, and Repeals Bills were read a third jime and ! passed. .. 1 The House rose at 11 o'clock.
