Church of England

The annual meeting in connection with the Church of England was held in the Kiwitea Hall on Tuesday, July 21st. The attendance was very small. The Eev Mr Hermon occupied the chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting haying been read and confirmed, the church officer read the report of the retiring committee, which, with the balance sheet, was adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year : Committee — Messrs Oorry, Levett, Church, Jacob, A. Johnston and Templar; Treasurer — Mr Church Auditor— Mr P. Goodbehere. Mr Banks was appointed by Mr Hermon as Church Officer. On the motion of the chairman, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Banks for her services as organist, to the lay reader and choirmaster, also to all those who had in any way assisted the church during the past year. Proposed by Mr Corry, seconded by Mr Leyett, That the sittings in the ohurch be let at the rate of £1 per annum, and that the church officer be instructed toreceive applications for all those unlet, reserving only those required for the choir. An amendment proposed by Mr Templer, seconded by Mr Jacob, That the sittings be free, was lost, and Mr Cony's motion was declared carried. It was resolved that the ohurch officer be m attendance at the church door to show strangers to seats. At a meeting of the committee a subcommittee was appointed to deal with the ohureh yard.
