LP«B UNITED PBEBB ASSOCIATION^' Sydney, July 18. The Unionists are acting aggressively at Bourke, and there is much excitement in town in consequence. They cut the moorings of the river steamer, which was being unloaded by free labourers. Large reinforcements or police have been despatched to preserve order. July 19. Last night the detectives planned a raid on the chief Chinese gambling establishment, and despite tbat it was strongly fortified, managed to gain an entrance and arrest most of the principal occupants. The arrests were not made without considerabte resistance, and no little excitement was occasioned in town, as out of the forty-two prisoners the majority are young Europeans, many well known. Some excitement was caused in town to-day by the report that Mr Pybus, a well-known sharebroker, had levanted. It is believed that he has got clear with nearly £30,000. July 20. The countrj' round Jerilderie is an immense sea. Sixty thousand travelling sheep have been stuck up by the floods, and it is feared they must perish. This Day. The keepers of the Chinese gambling hell, which was raided on Saturday night, were fined £20 each, and those who were engaged gambling £2 each. Melbourne, July 20. An important gold discovery has been made in the vicinity of Steiglitz, about forty miles north-west of the city. A lode containing six iucb.es of rich gold-bearing stone has been found. Conlston has been sentenced to death on the charge of murdering Mr and Mrs Davis at Narbethong. A boy named Matthews, agßd 12, shot himself with a revolver because his mother scolded him. This Day. The Marine Board have decided to proceed against the Captain of the Bmcorra, which went ashore near Cape Otway, for misconduct in navigating the vessel.
