* To-day is the twentieth anniversary \ <#X>f the establishment of a branch in this colony qi the Australian Mutual Provideat Society, with Wellington -as the seat of the local head office It iis instructive, as well as interesting, to -note the made by the New Zealand Branch in the period named - On the Ist July, 1871,* the annual revenue was, 196, proeduced* from' 1045 policies,* assuring Now, there 'are injfpjce, Roughly speaking, 16,000 policies, assuring £'5\0Q0,000, with a total - annual income of a quarter of a mil* > lion. r /rfca amount invested in Near Zealaurt securities on the 31st December, . 1890,/ was - £1, 245,000. This latter*fact t> of itself— for it means that not! one penny ,of the, accumulated fuudS of the* New. Zealand Branch is invested out of this colony— should cause- the institution to*, be regarded ,as one .having^ signal claims on local ' .support, and should tend/ if such were needed, to further strengthen public | .confidence in the Society.
