Attempted Suicide
• Yesterday morning the intelligence was brought to Feilding that a man named John Noble,, a laborer, well known in Feilding, had attempted to commit suicide, in a water closet at Halcombe, by cutting his throat. Dr Johnston, accompanied by constable Tuohey, at once left f or Halcpmbe, and on examining the wounded man it was found that although the sslf inflicted injury was severe, no fatal consequences were immediately likely to follow the^rash act. , After the wound had been" sown up, Noble was despatched^ the Wanganui hospital in charge of Constable Tuohey. The unfortunate man, we understand, has been suffering acute pain from an ulcerated throat for the past week or so, and has eaten practically nothing since Saturday last. Being unable to bear his intense bodily suffering he was driven to desperation. He was just about to commence a contract of grubbing furze for Mr H. T. Hammond, of Marton. Noble is still in a precarious condition.
