THE BACCARAT SCANDAL.
TO THE. EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — I am very, much interested to" know, if you or any of your readers can tell me, why such a case of this sort should excite public interest, and also why publicity should 'be given .to the severe criticisms passed on the .Prince of Wales, 9uch as haye been, by men of high or low degree all over Europe* It seems to my mind a pity that editors of newspapers nowadays cannot find subjects more interesting for .their readers than scandal and sensationalism. I call it a disgrace to the Press Association of England to publish such paragraphs as they have published lately in the newspapers all over the world rebuking and denouncing our noble Prince — our future king — ' for playing the harmless game of Bac- ' carat. By publishing such atuff conservative , editors of newspapers are doing themselves and their clients harm, in injuring their own cause, and there is nothing that pleases the radicals more than Boandal oi this sort. ' To publish such a scandal as this in detail and also their own criticisms is bad policy,-, which, '■ no doubt, the press will find out too late. It is nothing more or less than inciting the mass of people to revolution. In conclusion I only hope, that the papers are not in this expressing public opinion, and that the English public still retain the good name they have always held of loyal subjects of the Queen and the- Prince of Wales.- 1 -! am, &c, ±. , Conservative.
