Disastrous Fire

I PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. | , Sydney, This Day. A disastrous fire broke out at 6 o'clock this morning in the fine four story warehouses of Messrs McLean Bros. and'Rigg, ironmongers, situated in George street. When first discovered the fire had a firm hold of the premises, which have been completely destroyed, and though the fire is still (9 a.m.) burning, it is well ■ under control and the flames confined to Messrs McLean's store, but a small building adjoining was demolished. The'insurances and extent of the -damages are not yet ascertained. " The fire was subdued shortly after 9 this morning, but not before the premises of Messrs Buckingham and Pepper (drapers), and Hanks (grocers), were completely gutted. A large quantity of explosives, including many hundred cartridges, were stored in " Messrs McLean Bros, and Bigg's premises, but fortunately they did not explode.
