Thursday, Jtotb 11. , The House met at 2.30, the Speaker in the chair. Mr Felix. Maguire,. member for Egmont, took the oath and hisseaf. The Judges report on the Te Aroha Election having been read. The Premier moved that a writ be issued for the election of a member for the Te Aroha district, which was earned. The Premier moved the adjournment until the next day. - The flon 'Mr Bryce asked what they were going to do as to . the immediate course of business, and suggested that it would be advisable to allow the two leading speeches ta be made the next day, and then adjourn the debate until Tuesday. The Premier replied that it was their desire to push on the business, and if fchey found anj desire on the part of the Opposition to debate the Address, they would afford them every facility for doing so. ' , Mr Taylor tabled a question* as to whether the Governor pays anything for the use of the Rinetnoa, and whether there is any truth in the rumour that Hi* Excellency u<es the Government Printing Jnice for printing ball programmes, &c., free of cost. The Hon. Mr McKenzie gave notice of the introduction of a Land Bill. The Hon. Mr McKenzie moved the ap. pointment of a Stock Committee, to con. sist of Messrs Buchanan, C. H. Mills Wright, McGuire, Rhodes, Duncan, Mackintosh, Hou8:on, Lawry, and the mover The Hon. G. R Richardson, in speakmg on the matter, flatly contradicted the statement of the Hon. Mr McKenzie at Palmerston, that he had found the Land Department in a disorganised, state and that thousands of pounds were spent by the inspectors in the past without any control from the Department in Wellington. ° The Hon. Mr McKenzie asserted that atook inspectors were not to be found at their duty, but on lawn tennig grounds, bowling greens, &o. * The Hon. Mr Riohardson asked whether it was in order or good taste for a Minister to make such wholeuale charges against officers who could riot defend themselves.
