London Markets.
The N.Z.L. and M. Company report Tinder date, of April 18th, as follows :— Wool. — The second series of sales opened on'2nd instant, the available arrivals aggregating 346.654 bales, including 51,746 bales from New Zealand. .At ' tbe opening there was a good attendance - 1 both of Home and Foreign buyers, but i ■while the bidding was fairly animated, i competition was somewhat less brisk than had been generally 'anticipated. Values, on ayerage, exhibited little change from those ruling at close of preceding, series, gave in the case of faulty scoureds, which i ruled in buyer's favour, and fine greasy , crossbreds,- which were rather firmer. With the progress of the sales more confidence has been shown, with the result that the better grades of combing, both & merino and fine crossbred, may now be quoted about £d per lb. higher than at the opening. The inquiry on American account has been well sustained throughout,'and the bulk of the wool offered suited to the" particular requirements of this section of the trade- has been bought for the United' States at yery'iult prices. With regard to the "immediate future, as it is a matter of common knowledge that large supplies will haye to be dealt with later in the current • year, the fact that the market has exhibited so considerable an amount of stability must be regarded as a satisfactory feature, and would appear to indicate that the industry, as a whole, has suffered to a smaller extent from the recent financial depression than had in some qiiartora been anticipated. Hots. — Since our last issue there has " been more business doing, both in yearling and older growths. The further de pletion of. stocks which may been expected to take place, between this date and the month 'of July, should render it -possible to obtain remunerative prices for any good, 'sound New Zealand growth vhich may be 'shipped to, arnye about time. _■ ' BUTTER. — Since our last issue the demand .has been very activej and New .Zealand, especially the finer qualities, has met a ready sale at full prices.
