I PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. J Masterton, May 29. - Tbe Masterton . Licensing Committee election resulted in the return of foui Prohibitionists and one Moderate. The poll was declared amidst great excitement. Five Prohibitionists polled 141, 127, 125, 119, and 113 ; whilst the Moderates polled 123, 117, 115, 104, and 93- respectively. It is expected that most of the" hotels in the town will be. closed. Christchubch, May 28. "The Railway League Executive .Committee, Lhristchurch, have telegraphed the Premier that a public demonstration is threatened if the" Midland Railwaj deviation is bung up any longer. Thej ask the Premier if Government will sanction the work- if the London Board approves of the agreement between Mi Wilson and the Grey County Council.
