CFBOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) On Friday eyening last the Rev..W. Harris, of Feilding, gaye an excellent lecture in the Beaconsfield Church- on " A night with the Rey." Charles Garret, of - Liverpool," which was followed by .a coffee supper, of which about 70 persons partook. The lecturer was listened to with great attention, and was frequently applauded during the deliyery. The leb-' turer at the close thanked the doners of the supper, and the audience for ' their attendance, some of whom had come many'miles through tbe bush to be present. The proceeds go to the Feilding . ■ Methodist Manse fund. . The Waituna Aided School is finished, and is only awaiting the desks, which the Education Board is expected to forward - in a few days. It is expected there will be, about 30 scholars to start with, some of whom have-been debarred from attending a.school for years. ~ Feed is abundant, and stock of all kinds are looking well. The potato crop has turned out splendidly, so the tubers are cheap this year. This_ district seems to be getting better appreciated. I hear of one farmer being offered £9 per acre for 200 acres, if an ■ adjoining section could be got at the same price, but the owner declines to sell afc that figure. One of our farmers sold £170 worth of cattle lately, and took a cheque /for the. amount. Mr' Banker says ".no funds,'* ■Mr Dealer cannot be found. Moral : Don't take cheques from strangers.' Native game are yery scarce thia season, no pigeons to be seen at all. Pheasants seem fairly plentiful. The Kiwitea Road Board is haying some of the worst of the cuttings leading into the West Waitapu metalled, which will be a great convenience to settlers.
