News ' Received from London by the , San Francisco mail giving particulars regarding the recent shipments of Auckland ■apples, to* London, states' that the fruit sent :fronr-New Zealand is in , good demand, and that the outlook is sufficiently encouraging to fruit', growers to send Home further 'shipments by the direct steamers* ' - Westpobt, May 23 . The coal export* for tb> week was 152 tons from the Wellington wine and 3974 tons from the Deumslon mine; total, 4126 tons. ■'■,-' The total quantity of coal carried on the Wesfcport railway for the four weekly period ended to-day is 19,666 tons, the largest on record. Wellington, This Day. The Hon. Mr MoKenzie goes south on Friday and addressea his constituents on Monday night,, at Palmerstou South. He intends to reply to Mr Spence's charges, and the charges made against his retrenchment policy and the administration of his department. He returns to-morrow week.
