We learn from the N. Z. Captain Holdsworth and a Maori convert to the Salvation Army are now touring the North Island, and were at Hastings a few nights ago. After the customary street parade a halt was made, and the usual testimonies were given. The Captain, in' mixed Maori and English, called upon his dusky friend to give his testimony, when the latter replied, " What the h you call that ? That's ,no Maori ; that's pigeon English 1" After this outburst of feeling the Army had recourse to united prayer.— Napier News. Not so very many years ago Mr D. H. ! Maciirthur stated, in the course of an address to his constituents, that a Ministry bold enough to carry out thorough reorganisation of the Civil Sorv : ca would arouse such a storm of opposition from the friends of the retrenched ones as to cost them their seat's on the Ministerial benches. Part of his prophecy has come true, (says the Manawatu'Standard) but the good sense of both parties in the House will prevent the fulfilment of the rest— for the Liberal party will be quite content with the present Ministry, and the Torins are too sensible to desire to take office in a time like the present, when they know the good sense of the majority of the people is with their •opjjonents. ■ - „'
