The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, MAY 19, 1891. Resident Magistrate
» . The Manawatu Timeß thinks it is time a Resident Magistrate was stationed in Palmerston, and suggests that the local Borough Council should take i.he matter and in hand, to endeuvourto attain that object. We cordially agree with our contemporary because with the large increase of population in this part of the coast, the civil bueiuess to oo trausucted iv the R.M. Courts, has increased in proportion, and therefore made it almost impossible for one man to overtake the work. As an evidence of the necessity pointed out hy our contemporary, we may state that several of the cases, I Bet down for hearing at the last sittings of the Iteuideut Magistrate's Court at Feilding, had to be postpoued for v month, owing to the preas of work which could not be completed iv oue day, even although the R.M. sut until a late hour, In consequence of this parties to suits, whether as pluiutiffd, defendants, or witnesses, were put to much unnecessary, as w-'ll as unexpected extra cost, besides the loss of valuable time. We think the members uf the Feilding Burough Council will do well by co operating with their brethren in Palmerston, and expresn the hope that by thpir united endeavours the desired end will be accomplished.
