The N.Z.L. and M. Company report •under date May Ist : — Wheat' (free). — The markets in the Southern Colonies have, during the past fortnight ruled Btrong, quotations steadily improving to 5s per bushel, the cablegrams respecting the further advances in the English market causing holders to act with great caution. During the past day or two, however, the markets have hardly been so firm, later cables from Home advising a slightly easier feeling there, and prime Victorian and South Australian milling wheat is now quoted at from 4s lOd to 4s lid per bushel, locally transactions have been very restricted, but little of N..S. Wales milling ■wheat coming forward of late. In the .absence of sales therefore we quote same nominally at 4s 8d to 4s lOd per bushel. Butter (duty Id per lb).--The butter ■jmarket has continued to harden, owing to the shortness of supplies ruling of late, -and best local factory butter is to-day .quoted at up to Is 2d, dairy-made offering at up to Is per lb.
