In Mr Shearer's furniture warehouse was to be seeu yesterday one of the most handsome drawing-room suits ever turned out in Feilding. The frames are of walnut, while the covering is of different patrons of rich tapestry, bordered with plush. The workmanship is, as usual in this establishment, first-class, and would do any towu establishment credit. We direct the attention of those interested to an attractive advertisement in another column, from the Bon Marche. There is now on display at this popular establishment a splendid assortment of dress goods, clothing aud general drapery for the winter season. As the prices in many cases are quoted, a large and speedy clearance of these first-class goods should be the result. Mr G' - ahain is claimant to the earldoms of Menteith and Airth. We (Advocate) are sorry to heat* that the proposal to keep a half- holiday in Marton is likely to be abandoned. This undesirable issue of the agitation is not due to outside opposition, but to the re« fusal of one of the storekeepers of the town to co-operate. The town was almost unanimous in favor of the half day's re laxation, and only one man refused to sign ihe paper. Whether he will be prevailed upon to withdraw his opposition we cannot say. Referring to the performance at Blenheim, the Express says: — Never has Blenheim seen E wart's Hall more packed than it was last night, when " Little Lord Fauntleroy" was produced for the first time. The play was one we'l worthy of the patronage it received, from beginning to end it was something worth seeing, and one simply revelled in good things. First and foremost conies the Little Lord himself, or herself, whichever is liked best, and as played by Ruby Kennedy, it was one of the best displays of histrionic talent we have ever winessed. Artless in the extreme, and yet from her very simplicity full of art, full of tender stnypathy and quaint expressions, she remains a child all through, and never attempts to go beyond her defined limits in this respect. Our Ashurst correspondent writes : — " I have to record a bad accident that happened on Tuesday afternoon at the Victoria saw mill. Mr Alfred Gardiner had only just entered upon his new duties as truck driver at this mill, when on the second day he broke his leg, high up in the thigh — a very bad place. As the loaded trucks were coming round a curve on their way to the mill the foremost one jolted at a critical point, and the iog on which the driver was sitting rolled off, and he with it. The whole weight came on his thigh, breaking the bone and pinning him to the ground. It is a very unusual occurrence for anyone to pass that way, but, fortunately, on this day two men were coming down the tramway, at the time of the accident, and extricated him, or the poor fellow would have had to have lain till Mr Warne's bushmen returned from their work — probably 2 or 3 hours, He was taken home in Mr Coombe's trap as quickly as possible, and Dr Maeintyre summoned by telephone. Dr Maeintyre is the medical man of the A.0.F., of which body Mr Gardiner is a member, and high up in local rank. Great sympathy is expressed on all sides with him, for he is such a steady, genial young fellow that he is a favorite with all."
