Betting at the start was S to 4 on Sullivan. Shortly after the start Stephenson got a strong lead and took Sullivan's water, whereupon the betting changed to 5 to 1 on Stephenson. After going a mile the latter collapsed, and Sullivan, rowing pluckily, took the lead and maintained it to the finish. Winning easily by six lengths. Time, 23min 33seo.
