Cheltenham & Kimbolton Road School Committee

About the time of the election of the late committee both schools had been opened as full time schools. The Cheltenham school had an ayerage attendance of 31, and the Kimbolton Road school opened on March 3rd as a full time school, with a roll number of 25. During the year the attendance at the Cheltenham school lias fallen off, owing principally to the closing of the saw mill, the average attendance being now barely 25* while the attendance at the Kiiubolfcofl Road school has increased, the average attendance for the past month being 2425 with a roll number of 30. Both schools were examined by Mr Bindon in May, but the number of passes were not as good as were expected, a great many failing in the higher standards ; but it is hoped there will be better results at the next examination as both have been full time schools for a whole term. On the committee taking office there was in hand : Balance in hand, £2 16s 10£ d; capitation grant, £16 3s ; fencing Cheltenham school ground, £2 12s 6d ; use of Cheltenham school for meetiugs, £2 18s. Total, £24: 5s 4£d. The committee have expended : Cleaning schools, i'4l6s ; fuel for schools, £1 10s ; repairs to buildings, fencing, and furniture, £5 3s 9d ; special grant for fencing, £2 12s 6d ; advertising, 10s 6d ; stationery for both schools, £4 8s 4d ; exchange on cheques, 3s ; balance in hand, £5 Is 3£d. Total, £24 5s 4£d. In conclusion, I beg to state that matters have progressed satisfactorily between the committee and the teachers during the past year. The annual meeting of householders was held in the Cheltenham school-room on Monday, April 27th, at 8 p.m. Mr Tappin occupied the chair. The Chairman informed the meeting that the following geatlemen had been proposed as members of the committee, for the ensuing year : Messrs Mills, Law, Tappin, Barrow, Gibson, Phillips and Mitchell. He therefore declared them duly elected. The report of the retiring committee was read as above. Proposed by Mr Mills, seconded by Mr Phillips, That the report as read be adopted, and thut a hearty vote of thanks be given to Mr Tappin fjr his servk-< s. The Chairman, having put the uiotion to the meeting, declared it carried, and briefly returned thanks. The meeting then adjourned.

A meeting of the new committee was afterwards held, at which Mr Tappin was re-elected Chairman, and Mr J. Barrow Treasurer. Some routine business having been gone through, the meeting adjourned.
