Federation Convention
NEW ZEALAND DELEGATES - INTERVIEWED. * (PER UNITED PRESS .ASSOCIATION.) 3 Auckland, April 14. lt Sir Harry Atkinson was inter--e viewed, and said he had no doubt the Conference materially aided the Federation scheme. He thinks it would be . very detrimental indeed for New i. Zealand to stand out from Federation, but could not advise this Colony to ts join under the present Bill, in con--0 sequence of the financial aspect of the question. He thinks colonial debts: must be taken over entirely, aud does uot. sue how a Colony situated as we- ■' are, can possibly agree to part -with •g its revmiue and not have its liabilities taken ovor. He hopes the diffieuly. n may nut prove insurmountable. Captain Russell was also interviewed, and said the cause of Federation had progressed enormously, and P his own views on the subject had ado vanced considerably. He lakes the ■- same view of the financial difficulty as- '- Sir Harry Atkinson..
