The Agent-Generalship
The Ministry are either at their wits end as to whom they should appoint to succeed Sir Dillon Bell, whose time is nearly up> or they want to get rid of either Mi ' George Hutchison, the member for Waitotara, or Mr Perceval the member for Ohristchureh South. The Wanganui Herald has the boldness to state that either of these gentlemen is qualified to succeed Sir Dillon Bell. Hitherto the AgentGeneralship has been looked upon as a great prize only to be won after long and arduous service in the colony, and the disp'ay of marked administrative ability as a Minister. The two gentlemen indicated have a " great future" before them in that respect, because neither of them have had opportunities of showing either political or administrative ability, and the amount of their usefulness to the colony is as yet an unknown quantity We do not expect that the electors as a whole will approve of a young and untried man being foisted into such a position merely that a troublesome supporter of the Ministry may be got rid of for the time.
