Twenty-nine horses started. A great race to the post resulted in a neck victory for Paris. Time, lniin 40sec. Won by a head in 1-16 J. i Sydney Gold Cup, of 1500 soys ; 2 miles — Highborn, 9-3, 1 ; Greygown, 8-5, 2 ; ' Yowi, 6-0, 3. Also ran — Cardigan, Little Bernie, Muriel, Tridentine, Utter, E.K., Wandsworth, Helene, Pretty Kate, Lancer, Southerly Buster. A desperate race resulted in a head victory for Highborn. Time, 3-37£. Highborn was backed to win about £'20,000, and Greygown and Little Bernie ' were each supported for nearly that amount.
