F.J.C. EASTER MONDAY MEETING.

(Notes by Crackshot.} / With a fine day the Feilding Jockey Club will once more be successful in their endeavors to supply a good day's onting to lovers of the sport of Kings. MiHenry's handicaps have pleased ownors excellently, if a guage. may be taken by j the manner in which the latter ha-ve responded in accepting with their nags ; and backers are puzzled in their attempts to spot the beat goods. The only events for which I can select winners are the Flying and F.J.C. Handicaps, as the weights and; acceptances for the other races will not be out till Monday morning. The track is in good order, perhaps a trifle soft, and I think thit although the fields will only be moderate, some good racing will be witnessed. The F. J.C. Handicap, 1£ miles, With the nine acceptors, would have been a splendid race, but I do not think above five or six will go to the post. Jenny will be an absentee, and one or two others are very doubtful starters. St. Malo,B-9, if wound up by W. Butler to concert pitch, SllOUld be moßt dangerous, for with 7-8 at Dunedin last November he ran second to the Dunedin Cup winner, Freedom, 8-7, the mile and a half occupying 2-42. He only wants to be as well as on that occasion to win the big event of this meeting. The others I have most respect for (to cut a long story short) are Pyramus, 7-0, and Cruiser, 7-6. The former, if he can be kept back to his horses for a mile, will be all there when the whips are cracking, but he will have to be carefully nursed to get his nose in front. Cruiser can undoubtedly get the journey, but he has been troubled again with a cold up to quite recently. He is, however, reported to be exceedingly well, and has done a big trial over the distance. With a start, I consider the numbers will be hoisted — St. Malo ... ... ... 1 Pyramus ... 2 Obuiseb ... 8 The other principal event — The Flying Stakes, f -mile, Will result in a splendid contest, but I am endeavoring to pick a winner in the dark, as the aspect of affairs will most undeniably be changed if some of the horses which are entered for both races are reserved for the short event and do not compete in the Handicap. Take for instance Retina and Pyramus — These two have a splendid chance if they start fresh, but I think it will be removed ii they compete in the big race. Mi Paul's representative, Fleta, 7-9, will take a lot of beating, but her best effort will be over a mile in the Winter Oats However, I forecast the result to be- - Fleta... 1 Pyramus 2 Angles or Retina 3
